METZLER FOREST PRODUCTS RECOGNIZED AS FRA’S NATIONAL OUTSTANDING LOGGER AWARD WINNER
Nashville, Tennessee, April 30, 2024 – The Forest Resources Association (FRA) honored Alan Metzler and Metzler Forest Products as the 2024 National Outstanding Logger (NOL) Award winner at FRA’s National Annual Meeting Awards Dinner in Nashville, Tennessee, on April 30th. FRA Appalachian Region Consultant Jeff Jenkins gave a heartfelt presentation overview of the Metzler family business and operations, highlighting their continuous commitment to safety, core values, and high-quality achievements. FRA Chairman of the Board, Pete Stewart, presented Alan Metzler, along with his family Jill, Nate, Logan, and Lucas, with the traditional FRA NOL Award plaque, a solid walnut plaque shaped like the U.S. with an axe across it to commemorate his accomplishment. FRA National Outstanding Logger award sponsor STIHL, Inc. also provided the Metzler family with a check for $1000 as part of the award package. Alan graciously accepted the award on behalf of his family and the entire Metzler team. Alan acknowledged his dedicated wife of over 20 years, his sons, who have now taken leading roles in the business, and his daughters-in-law, who have been a tremendous support to his sons. He reiterated that faith and family were the reasons for his company’s success.
Metzler Forest Products was founded in 1986 and is currently a third-generation family-owned business based in Reedsville, PA. The Metzlers are the quintessential logging family whose priorities are in the right places. For over two generations, they have provided great jobs for a growing workforce, a needed outlet for low-grade material to help make sustainable forestry possible, and leadership in the local community and across the state.
Over the years, Metzler Forest Products (MFP) has received numerous recognitions, including owner Alan Metzler received an FRA Technical Writing Award for his article on “Cold Decking Chips.” MFP has been featured several times in various publications, including “TimberLine” Magazine. They are active in the Pennsylvania Forest Products Association (PFPA). Nate Metzler, General Manager, serves as a board member of the Pennsylvania Forest Products Association, and he’s the Vice-Chairman of the Keystone Wood Products Association (KWPA). Garin Peck, the Procurement and Estimating Manager for Metzler Forest Products, serves as the chairman of the board of Pennsylvania’s State Implementation Committee for their Sustainable Forestry Initiative. Metzler Forest Products received FRA’s Appalachian Region Outstanding Logger award for 2023. The Pennsylvania Forest Products Association and The Keystone Wood Products Association both endorsed the Metzler’s FRA National Outstanding Logger Award nomination.
Jenkins stated, “Metzler Forest Products Company has been an important part of the forest industry and their community for over 35 years. They are ambassadors to our forests and communities.”
