ANDREW MILLER, MARK BYLER, AND WES MILLER OF A.M. LOGGING, LLC, RECOGNIZED AS FRA

APPALACHIAN REGION OUTSTANDING LOGGER FOR 2022

On October 13, 2022, the Forest Resources Association and STIHL Incorporated honored Andrew Miller, Mark Byler, and Wes Miller of A.M. Logging, LLC at the Wyndham Garden State College in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, as the FRA 2022 Appalachian Region Outstanding Logger.

A.M. Logging, LLC was established in 2007 by Andrew Miller and Mark Byler. Located in Millheim, PA. A.M. Logging offers land clearing, timber harvesting, excavating, chipping, and grinding services. With an emphasis on zero waste, they sell mulch which is produced from the lowest-grade material they harvest. “The fact that A.M. Logging focuses on low-grade utilization as a business model not only helps the environment, but it makes the operation economically feasible,” stated Matt Gabler, executive director of the Pennsylvania Forest Products Association (PFPA). “They certainly are doing the right thing for our forests and the economy.” A.M. Logging provides logs, chips, and residuals from the forest to multiple wood-consuming partners in their region. Wes Miller, Andrew’s father, joined the A.M. Logging team in 2017 as business development manager, a role that includes governmental relations. “Both Andrew and Mark recognize that you have to be part of what is going on,” says Wes Miller. “They want me to be involved in industry matters. It’s not enough to simply get up and go to work every day. You have to be involved.”

A.M. Logging supports and participates in Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) training. This training helps to improve safety, environmentalism, productivity, and professionalism of forest industry members. A.M. Logging is making a difference in the industry and community while making its customers happy. “It is the little things that mean a lot,” says private landowner John G. Gilliland, who has managed over 2,600 acres in Centre and Clearfield Counties. “The people at A.M. Logging are good people. There is no doubt about that.”

The FRA Appalachian Region Outstanding Logger Award for 2022 prizes—a cherry & walnut wooden crosscut saw plaque from FRA, and a STIHL chainsaw certificate, and a $500 check provided by STIHL—were presented to Andrew, Mark, and Wes by the Appalachian Region Steering Committee Vice-Chair, Bill Dempsey, at the Appalachian Region Fall Meeting at the Wyndham Garden State College in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania on October 13.

The A.M. Logging, LLC nomination was submitted by Matt Gabler, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Forest Products Association, and Stephanie Phillips-Taggart, Executive Director of the Keystone Wood Products Association.

FRA’s Outstanding Logger Award program is designed to raise the visibility of professional logging contractors and to encourage other loggers to adopt the performance of the award winners. The Regional Award winner becomes a nominee for FRA’s National Outstanding Logger Award competition.

STIHL Incorporated serves as the sponsor of FRA’s Regional and National Outstanding Logger Awards.
