Auburn, AL, March 11, 2026 – The Forest Resources Association (FRA) recognized Nathan P. Gatlin, North Carolina State Extension Area Specialized Agent- Forestry, as the 2026 Southeastern Region Technical Writing Award recipient for his FRA Technical Release, Hurricane Helene Serves as a Catalyst for Landowner Chainsaw Training. The honor was presented during FRA’s Southwide Region Spring Meeting held at the Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center in Auburn, Alabama.
FRA’s Technical Releases are quarterly publications that highlight technical advancements, research, and innovative programs across the forest products industry. Many of these releases are authored by FRA members, and the best in each region are selected annually by the region’s Steering Committee for recognition.
Clay Altizer, FRA Southwide Region Manager, offered his congratulations for coordinating the popular workshops, and with the assistance of Michael Walker, FRA Southeastern Region Steering Committee Chair, presented Gatlin with his award check and plaque provided by FRA. Gatlin thanked FRA for the honor and recognition and shared that it was a rewarding experience to play an active role in assisting impacted landowners in Western North Carolina by helping them avoid serious injuries during hurricane cleanup activities.
“Proper chainsaw use is always a top priority safety training topic, especially for landowners who may not operate a saw on a regular basis. I commend Nathan for identifying the need to provide essential safety training for landowners conducting salvage operations in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. FRA appreciates his outstanding work, and we’re delighted to have him represent the Southeastern Region as our 2026 Technical Writing Award winner”. – FRASouthwide Region Manager Clay Altizer
