Shamco Inc., Recognized As FRA’s Lake States Region 2024 Outstanding Logger
Wausau, WI, October 17, 2024 – The Forest Resources Association (FRA) and STIHL, Inc. honored Shamco Inc., of Iron River, MI, as the 2024 Lake States Region Outstanding Logger award winner at FRA’s Lake States Region Fall Meeting in Wausau, WI on October 16th. Justin Knepper, Executive Director of the Michigan Association of Timbermen, who nominated Shamco Inc. for the award, joined Mark Gabriel, Dealer Services Manager of STIHL, in presenting Ryan Shamion of Shamco Inc. with a commemorative crosscut saw plaque in recognition of their achievement. FRA Outstanding Logger award sponsor STIHL also provided Shamco with a check and an MS462 chainsaw voucher as part of his Outstanding Logger award package. Ryan graciously accepted the award on behalf of his family and the entire Shamco team. Ryan recognized the late work of his father in establishing the business and acknowledged the efforts of his hardworking employees. “We would not be here now if not for the hard work of our dedicated and reliable workforce,” Ryan stated.

Founded in 1997 by Jerry Shamion and passed on to his sons Todd, Scott, Eric, and Ryan, Shamco has grown into a full-service logging, timber harvesting, and trucking company. With over 80 collective years of experience in timber harvesting, spanning three generations of the Shamion family, Shamco sets a high standard for efficiency, safety, and environmental stewardship in every step of the process—from harvesting to site cleanup and reforestation. Their dedication to sustainable forestry is evident in the comprehensive training they provide to their more than 30 employees, many of whom have been with the company for over 15 years. Shamco’s six logging crews and extensive trucking fleet, combined with their partnerships with four subcontractor companies, make them a leader in the industry. Together, they operate 12 logging crews, ensuring quality and expertise in every job.

FRA Interim President and Lake States Region Manager Tim O’Hara stated, “Shamco’s unwavering commitment to safety and best management practices sets a high standard in our industry. From ensuring their team wears PPE and holding monthly ‘Think Safety’ training sessions with MATSIF to conducting weekly safety contacts on job sites, their dedication is clear. As a past recipient of the 15-year accident-free award from MATSIF, Shamco exemplifies what it means to prioritize safety and sustainable forestry.
Beyond their exceptional work in the field, Shamco is also a pillar of their community. As a local employer active in the Chamber of Commerce, they continually give back through their support of cancer research and charity work. We are proud to honor Shamco’s leadership, not only in forestry but also in their commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those around them.”
