SHAMCO, INC. RECEIVES FRA’S 2025 NATIONAL OUTSTANDING LOGGER AWARD
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE– Friday, May 9, 2025
Miramar Beach, FL, May 7, 2025 – The Forest Resources Association (FRA) proudly recognized Todd, Scott, Eric, and Ryan Shamion of Shamco, Inc. as the recipients of the 2025 National Outstanding Logger Award. The honor was presented during FRA’s 2025 Annual Meeting, held in conjunction with the Southeastern Region Spring Meeting in Miramar Beach, Florida.
STIHL has long sponsored FRA’s Regional and National Outstanding Logger Award Program. Each year, it donates chainsaws and checks to the regional winners and a $1,000 check for the National recognition. We are grateful for STIHL’s past support for this important program. The 2025 award marked STIHL’s final year of sponsorship.
Henry Schienebeck, Executive Director of the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association, announced Shamco, Inc. as this year’s award winner, commending their contributions, focus on safety, commitment to workforce development, and exemplary expertise in the timber industry.
SHAMCO, Inc. – A Legacy Rooted in Family, Forest, and Community
SHAMCO, Inc. was founded in 1997 by Jerry Shamion, a seasoned woodsman with deep roots in Michigan’s logging industry. Together with his wife, Chris, Jerry grew SHAMCO into a trusted, full-service logging, trucking, and timber harvesting company. Their dedication, grit, and passion for sustainable forestry built a foundation that would support generations to come.
Although Jerry passed away in 2020, his legacy lives on through his four sons— Todd, Scott, Eric, and Ryan—who now run the business alongside their own families and a close-knit team of 35 full-time, year-round employees. Today, SHAMCO stands as a proud third-generation family business with more than 65 years of industry experience. The company’s motto, “Shamion’s the name, logging’s the game,” speaks to the pride and professionalism that define their work.
Safety First, Always
SHAMCO’s operations are rooted in a strong safety culture. The team strictly adheres to PPE protocols and hosts regular “Think Safety” trainings with a MATSIF Safety Specialist. Job site and shop safety checks are routine, reinforcing their commitment to protecting every member of the crew. This dedication has earned SHAMCO a prestigious 15-year Accident-Free Award from MATSIF—a testament to their vigilance and care.
Stewards of the Land
SHAMCO doesn’t just harvest timber—they manage forests responsibly. The team follows Best Management Practices to minimize environmental impact, including erosion control, water quality protection, and building roads and landings that protect the forest floor. Private landowners are guided through the process with hands-on education, walkthroughs, and closeout meetings that ensure transparency and satisfaction.
Pillars in the Community
As a proud member of the local Chamber of Commerce, SHAMCO is deeply involved in the community. The company supports American Legion Reino Post 21, participates in the county fair, the Rodeo Parade, and the July 4th Parade, and makes it a priority to purchase locally whenever possible. For the Shamion family, investing in the local economy and culture is just as important as managing healthy forests.
Following the announcement, Todd, Scott, Eric, and Ryan—joined by their wives and their mother, Chris Shamion of Shamco, Inc.—came on stage to accept the award, which included a commemorative plaque and a check from STIHL.

Scott Shamion, the second eldest of the brothers, took to the podium to deliver a heartfelt acceptance speech. He expressed deep gratitude to his brothers and the Shamco employees, emphasizing the vital role they’ve played in the family’s success. Ryan also took time to honor his mother’s years of hard work, dedication, and community service and acknowledged the sacrifices made by the wives to help the family reach this milestone.
