Greensboro, NC, October 16, 2024 – The Forest Resources Association (FRA) honored Roy Reaves of Roy Reaves Timberfrom Bedford, Virginia, as the 2024 Appalachian Region Technical Writing Award winner at FRA’s 2024 Joint Appalachian & Southeastern Region / Forest Products Security Group Fall Meeting held in Greensboro, North Carolina. Bill Dempsey, Area Manager with Weyerhaeuser and Chair of FRA’s Appalachian Region Steering Committee, presented Roy with the award, an engraved commemorative plaque, and a $500.00 check.

Roy graciously accepted the award, sharing that this would never have happened if it weren’t for Jay Phaup, Procurement Manager at Greif, who took a great interest in the Ridge Link by coming to the shop, taking pictures, and sharing them with FRA members. Roy highlighted his appreciation for the support he’s received from everyone involved.

FRA publishes Technical Releases four times a year, and many of these articles are developed entirely or in part by members. FRA recognizes their efforts by giving awards for the best member-written technical releases in each region. Each year, the steering committees representing each FRA region submit their best member-written Technical Release to the FRA National Operations Committee for National Technical Writing Award consideration.

Roy’s award-winning Technical Release focuses on the “Ridge Link,” a proprietary invention that creates an adjustable standard that can be shifted forward or backward and locked into position. This allows the logger to haul different-length products without switching trailers.

FRA Appalachian Region Manager Jeff Jenkins stated, “The Ridge Link is an innovative trailer accessory that helps improve the efficiency and productivity of a logging operation.”
