Miramar Beach, FL, May 7, 2025 – The Forest Resources Association (FRA) honored Arthur Egolf with Egolf Forest Harvesting, Inc. from Delmar, DE, as the 2025 Southeastern Region Outstanding Logger Award winner during FRA’s 2025 Annual Meeting, held in conjunction with the Southeastern Region Spring Meeting in Miramar Beach, Florida. “Arthur Egolf is a champion of sustainable forestry and represents the very best of our industry on the Delmarva Peninsula. As a licensed forester, logger, landowner, and innovator, Arthur views forests through a unique lens and sees beyond the timber. He is an exceptional professional whose roots run deep and is a role model for strong forester-logger-landowner relationships.” – Taylor Robinson- MD/DE Master Logger Program
Altizer then invited Ron Phillips, SER Steering Committee chair, to help in presenting Arthur and his wife, Rachel, who was in attendance, with an engraved cherry and black walnut cross-cut saw plaque. Egolf Forest Harvesting
With degrees in Forest Resource Management and Industrial Forest Operations from Virginia Tech, Arthur Egolf’s technical expertise is matched by a deep passion for sustainable forestry and professional logging. His early interest in forestry began while cutting firewood with his brother in high school and was solidified through hands-on logging experience with Weyerhaeuser during college. In 1993, Arthur launched his own operation with a set of repossessed equipment—and hasn’t looked back.
Over the years, Arthur has distinguished himself not only as a skilled logger but also as a leader and mentor in the forestry community. He was one of the first in his region to integrate computers into his business operations, helping modernize record-keeping and inspiring other loggers through educational outreach. He has welcomed students from Penn State Mont Alto and Allegheny Community College to observe his operations and learn firsthand about sustainable southern yellow pine management. Arthur prioritizes safety by regularly using FRA Safety Alerts as training resources and ensuring all equipment, including trucks and trailers, is well maintained.
Egolf Forest Harvesting is truly a family business. Arthur’s wife, Rachel—a forester—helps with permitting and landowner outreach, while their sons Coleman and Teddy are actively involved in both fieldwork and managing the family’s own tree farm. A longtime member of numerous state and national forestry associations, Arthur has earned multiple accolades over the years, including Delaware Tree Farmer of the Year and Maryland Logger of the Year. His selection as the 2025 Southeastern Region Outstanding Logger reflects a lifelong dedication to professional excellence, sustainable forestry, and service to his community.
Clay Altizer, FRA Southwide Region Manager, stated, “FRA’s Outstanding Logger Award Selection Team could not have been more impressed with Egolf Forest Harvesting, Inc. following our site visit. Arthur is active in numerous state and national forestry and logging associations, a testament to his commitment to being a leader in supporting and promoting the logging sector and the overall natural resources profession. One of his most impressive accomplishments was working with two business partners to solve a critical need for the Eastern Shore, finding additional markets for southern yellow pine. After retrofitting a shuttered sawmill site, Southern Coastal Forest Products was born. Arthur stepped away from mill management after several years and returned to full-time logging after ensuring the mill was fully operational and on solid footing. His leadership, character, and demonstrated service reflects everything FRA is looking for in an Outstanding Logger Award winner. We are proud to officially recognize Arthur’s numerous accomplishments in the Southeastern Region and share his outstanding service with forestry stakeholders nationwide.”
