FRA Issue Update - 1/24/20

The FRA team continues to make Hill visits to advance the Safe Routes Act (HR 2453). The meetings this week included a visit with House Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) Committee majority staff. T&I staff are in the process of compiling many transportation related bills for consideration in the Reauthorization of the Surface Transportation Act.

FRA Issue Update - 1/17/20

This week was a productive one on the trade front. On Thursday, the U.S. Senate passed legislation implementing the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA) by a vote of 89-10. This action follows House passage of the agreement in December by a 385-41 vote. The legislation now heads to the President’s desk where he plans to sign the bill next week.

FRA Issue Update - 1/10/20

H-2B ACTION ALERT: U.S. Representatives Andy Harris (R-MD-1), Chellie Pingree (D-ME-1), Jack Bergman (R-MI-1) and Jack Keating (D-MA-9) and Senators Angus King (I-ME) and Mike Rounds (R-SD) are circulating a letter to the Acting Secretary of Homeland Security, Chad Wolf, asking that he immediately release all of the additional H-2B visas authorized under the law.

FRA Issue Update - 11/27/19

The Wisconsin Council on Forestry has endorsed the Safe Routes Act. In a letter to Senator Baldwin (WI) the Council states “Legislation such as the Safe Routes Act, is needed to allow state legal log trucks the option to avoid rural and urban streets and highways and populated areas where pedestrian activities are numerous and where frequent intersections increase traffic safety concerns.

FRA Issue Update - 11/22/19

Congressman David Rouzer (R-NC-7) has signed on as a cosponsor to the Safe Routes Act (HR 2453).
FRA participated this week in a Capitol Hill Fly-In organized by the H-2B Workforce Coalition of which we are members. Representatives from the National Association of Landscape Professionals, the Seasonal Employment Alliance, AmericanHort, and the Golf Course Superintendents Association were also on hand.
