Purpose
Responsible for executing and overseeing site wood fiber procurement. Responsibilities will also include but not limited to the strategic forecasting, contract negotiation, and development of wood fiber procurement and procedures. Supports staff by ensuring corporate core values, initiatives, practices and policies are clearly communicated, implemented, and achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Control and coordinate the purchase of chips, sawdust, shavings, and other raw materials as required
- Negotiate contracts and agreements including administration of contracts
- Optimize economy in purchase, quality of materials purchased, reliability of supply and timeliness of delivery
- Maintain supplier/customer liaison – relationship building, negotiation, and communication
- Maintain inventory management – supply and delivery, material handling, analysis and reporting, receiving goods/inbound shipments
- Liaise with key plant contacts to support desired mill recipes
- Ensure FSC Certification requirements and oversee annual audit.
- Coordinate trucking efficiencies
- Maintains respectful communication with co-workers and supervisory staff
- Familiar with the company policies/processes and understands the impact of this position on the competitiveness and performance of the company
- Complies with and follows Health and Safety policies and programs
- Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Wood Science, Sustainable Biomaterials or related field
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the forest industry showing increasing levels of responsibility
- Minimum of three (3) years’ successful experience managing people and working in a cross-functional environment
- Strong interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered Professional Forester designation would be an asset
- Experience in wood procurement techniques
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Knowledge of purchasing procedures and practices
- Action oriented with high energy, drive and enthusiasm
- Commitment to continuous improvement
- Commitment to meet deadlines
- Proven negotiation skills
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Familiarity with raw material tracking/accounting software platforms
