Forest Forums Underway in the Northeast

FRA’s Northeast Region holds monthly Forest Forums – a dinner where members of the supply chain gather to socialize, have dinner and hear about issues of importance to the region’s forest industry.  Since re-starting in September, we have held three successful Forums:

  • In September, 80 people attended a presentation by a firm seeking to re-start and re-purpose closed biomass power plants and paper mills in the region, expanding from electricity to a range of combined heat and power projects and the manufacturing of wood-based biofuels.
  • Staff from Maine’s congressional delegation briefed Forum attendees in October about federal economic development activities aimed at supporting Maine’s rural economy and forest industry in the wake of a wave of mill closures, cutbacks and loss of markets for wood.
  • November saw over 70 attendees gather to hear from Forest2Market’s Pete Coutu present on Global Trends Driving Forest Industry in the Northeast

The Forest Forums are a great opportunity for members and prospective members to discuss and learn about issues facing our industry, as well as network and make valuable connections with others inthe forest products supply chain.  If you are interested in receiving notifications for these Forums - held on the first Thursday of the month near Bangor, Maine – please contact FRA’s Northeast Region Coordinator Eric Kingsley.
