On October 10, 2018, Ahlstrom-Munksjö completed the acquisition of Expera Specialty Solutions, one of the leading specialty paper producers in North America.
From this acquisition, Ahlstrom-Munksjö absorbed Expera’s four paper mills located in the state of Wisconsin, expanding its presence in North America and further strengthening its offering of unique, customized fiber-based materials.
Expera, now operating as Ahlstrom-Munksjö North America Specialty Solutions, continues to strongly serve its existing markets. The acquisition increased operational capacity for joint product development and sharing of best practices. Complimentary capabilities of both corporations bolster continued customer value and sustainability efforts.
The consolidation of Expera as a part of Ahlstrom-Munksjö integrates sustainability strategies. Bud DeLano, North America Specialty Solutions Wood Procurement Manager, comments: “This acquisition positioned our sustainability practices to evolve. As a larger Ahlstrom-Munksjö, we continue to revolutionize the papermaking process by exceeding sustainability goals. The Ahlstrom-Munksjö team understands the environment and resources we all share are critical to our long-term success as a paper manufacturer.”
Ahlstrom-Munksjö North America Specialty Solutions remains the industry leader in offering environment-friendly solutions for its customers. Dedicated to reducing its ecological impact, North America Specialty Solutions uniquely manufactures a wide breadth of sustainable papers with the capabilities to achieve multiple sustainability goals in a single product. The products are environmentally efficient yet hardworking in their intended applications. They perform in both the business and natural world, meeting the needs of a growing and demanding market.
As part of a resource-intensive industry, Ahlstrom-Munksjö North America Specialty Solutions pursues continuous improvement in sourcing practices. By encouraging landowners to reforest, protecting water quality and wildlife habits, and reducing harmful pathogens, Ahlstrom-Munksjö sustains healthy forests which provide raw materials for paper manufacturing.
“Our team believes sustainable timber harvesting is key in maintaining healthy forests,” explained DeLano. “Our fiber source is the backbone to high quality production. If not nurtured correctly, our products value will diminish. Our stewardship of the natural world and our resources mold future environmental and forestry standards. Our forestry programs not only establish roots to sustainable business, but are legacies for future generations.”
Ahlstrom-Munksjö North America (and around the world) is Chain-of-Custody certified under the FSC®, SFI®, and PEFC certification schemes.
