Announcement Regarding Upcoming FRA Western Region Fall Meeting:
With the approach of FRA’s Western Region Fall Meeting, you may have noted the current surge in COVID-19 cases in Northern Idaho, including Kootenai County and the Coeur d’Alene area. On September 8, 2021, the seven-day average of new COVID cases in Kootenai County was 150 compared to a seven-day average of only nine new COVID cases a day on July 9, 2021. News reports indicate that the Coeur d’Alene Hospital has had to temporarily expand into their conference center to be able to treat all patients adequately. Kootenai Health and its medical staff members have recently asked community leaders and citizens to “avoid optional large gatherings.”
Many companies are considering travel restrictions for their employees, which could affect quite a few planned registrants. Also, the Canadian border is closed currently for vehicle traffic from our northern neighbors. Even though the restriction will be revisited on September 21, 2021, the likelihood of it changing is very low.
For these reasons – but mainly to ensure the safety of Members and friends – we have made the difficult decision to move the Western Region Meeting to an all-virtual event.
FRA had hoped that regional meetings might be able to take place in person this fall, notwithstanding the fact that the national fall board meeting/advocacy day has become a virtual event because of the COVID risk.
A few important items of note:
- If you have made hotel reservations at the Coeur d’Alene Resort, please cancel those reservations NO LATER THAN Monday, September 20, 2021.
- All registrations fees collected by FRA – including activity day event fees – will be automatically reimbursed by the end of September 2021. EVERYONE CURRENTLY REGISTERED WILL REMAIN REGISTERED FOR THE VIRTUAL EVENT. There will be opportunities for others to register for the virtual meeting in the next couple of weeks.
- We will be considering the schedule for the virtual events in the next week, and will try to accommodate all speakers’ preferences to have presentations over two days, October 5th and 6th. To spread the speakers out over the two days would change the duration of the meeting, but from past experiences members have appreciated not having a full day of presentations. Please look for schedule notices during the week of September 20th.
- Discussions with the Coeur d’Alene Resort will begin to determine the best time to reschedule the Western Region meeting there. We are considering a date in May 2022. Feedback and suggestions on a date are welcome. Please contact Vickie ([email protected]).
Your questions and comments are welcome.
