Fernandina Beach, FL – On May 21, the Forest Resources Association’s Southeastern Region honored Dr. Joe Conrad, an Assistant Professor of Forest Operations at University of Georgia, with its Second Place Technical Writing Award for 2019. This Annual Award recognizes the best Technical Releases published and posted on FRA’s website.
Conrad authored Technical Release 18-R-13, Summary of Changes in Eastern U.S. Logging Businesses, 1980s-Present. It highlights many interesting results from his study of trends in logging businesses in various regions of the United States. Two of the more notable findings were that, while the number of logging businesses and the total number of logging workers has declined in most regions of the country since the 1980s, the decline has been offset by the increasing productivity of logging businesses. The trend is for fewer but larger, more productive logging businesses.
