FRA Southeastern Region

Southeastern Region 400

This FRA Region, managed by Rick Meyer and extending from Florida through eastern Virginia, is comprised of members who grow, harvest, transport, and/or consume fiber, primarily for delivery to sawmills, plywood plants, OSB mills, pulp and paper mills, and wood-energy facilities. Current issues of emphasis are trucking availability and trucking insurance issues, and logging capacity as it relates to wood fiber availability. The Region hosts a two-day Annual Meeting in the spring and a Southwide Timber Security Group Meeting in the fall. The Security Group Meeting location alternates every other year with FRA’s Southcentral Region.

J.J. Lemire Recognized by FRA for Safety Contributions

Roanoke, VA – On March 21, the Forest Resources Association’s Southeastern Region presented John “J.J.” Lemire with a special “Safety Recognition Award.” Lemire, the Director of Loss Control for Forestry Mutual Insurance Company in Raleigh, North Carolina, exemplifies the safety leadership that his company fosters. He has authored many outstanding FRA Safety Alerts and Technical Releases that improve logging and trucking safety awareness. Lemire has also served as the Chairman of FRA’s Timber Harvesting and Transportation Safety Foundation and its Southwide Safety Committee.

Lemire and Forestry Mutual Insurance have contributed to the development of many excellent logging safety videos that have been incorporated into state logger training and education programs. Lemire and Forestry Mutual are playing a key role in the current efforts of TEAM Safe Trucking ( to elevate the safety performance of the American Forest Industry’s log trucking sector.

FRA members and staff are grateful to J.J. Lemire for his many accomplishments in the field of logging and trucking safety.
