FRA’s Southcentral Region serves FRA members throughout Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, the Florida Panhandle, and Western Tennessee. It focuses on improving timber harvesting and transportation safety, efficiency, and environmental performance. Trucking safety and logging and trucking labor challenges are current issues of concern.

The Alabama Forestry Association, in partnership with the Alabama Loggers Council, AIDT, and the Forest Workforce Training Institute, recently wrapped up its third Logging Equipment Operator School.
Commercial truck driver training will likely be mandated by the federal government in the not-too-distant future.
The South’s production of pulpwood increased from 60.6 million cords in 2015 to 64.5 million cords in 2016. Roundwood production increased by 1.8 million cords to 51.2 million cords and accounted for 79 percent of the South’s total pulpwood production.
