FRA Southcentral Region

Southcentral Region 500

This FRA Region, managed by Rick Meyer and extending from Texas and Oklahoma through western Florida and Alabama, is comprised of members who grow, harvest, transport, and/or consume fiber, primarily for delivery to sawmills, plywood plants, OSB mills, pulp and paper mills, and wood-energy facilities. Current issues of emphasis are trucking availability and trucking insurance issues, and logging capacity as it relates to wood fiber availability. The Region hosts a two-day Annual Meeting in the spring and a Southwide Timber Security Group Meeting in the fall. The Security Group Meeting location alternates every other year with FRA’s Southeastern Region.

Bruce Hooker Recognized by FRA for Technical Writing

Roanoke, VA – On March 21, the Forest Resources Association honored Bruce Hooker with its Southcentral Region Second Place Technical Writing Award for 2018. This annual Award recognizes the best Technical Releases published and posted on FRA’s website.

Hooker, the Risk Control Director for Paragon Insurance’s North American Timber Program, authored FRA Technical Release 16-R-23, Ten Keys to Trucking Fleet Safety. The Technical Release lists and explains ten key trucking fleet management safety best practices that characterize excellent, well-run trucking businesses in the forest products industry. The “Ten Keys” highlight the practices necessary for log trucking to remain safe and insurable.  (FRA members may find 16-R-23 in the members-only/login area of www.forestresources.org.)
