Timber Harvesting Safety
The Colville National Forest, the little forest that could. Almost everyone has heard or read articles about wildfires in the Western US and Canada recently. Washington State has recently experienced the worst air quality in the nation.
On a July night, 200 loggers, truckers and members of New Hampshire’s forest industry gathered in a logger’s garage.
FRA members occasionally express frustration with the growing trend of local governments (counties, townships, parishes) enacting ordinances that restrict truck weights and require road bonding for timber harvesting operations.
Last week, I took a road trip in preparation for the field visits of the Lake States Region Fall meeting. My travels took me through the scenic backroads of northern Wisconsin.
