The Wisconsin Council on Forestry has endorsed the Safe Routes Act. In a letter to Senator Baldwin (WI) the Council states “Legislation such as the Safe Routes Act, is needed to allow state legal log trucks the option to avoid rural and urban streets and highways and populated areas where pedestrian activities are numerous and where frequent intersections increase traffic safety concerns.

Representatives from the National Association of Landscape Professionals, the Seasonal Employment Alliance, AmericanHort, and the Golf Course Superintendents Association were also on hand.

Last weekend, Congressman Gallagher (R-WI-8) hopped into a log truck to get a better understanding of the issues that the Safe Routes Act aims to resolve. The Congressman rode “shotgun” as logs were transported from the woods to Algoma Lumber which is located in the Congressman Gallagher’s district.
