Coalition Advocates Private Forest Role in Climate Mitigation

The Forest Climate Working Group, a coalition of 19 advocacy organizations, submitted six recommendations to the Obama Administration’s Climate Change Initiative, advocating a leading role for privately owned forests. Recommendations include budget increases for the Forest Inventory and Analysis program, increased research funding for initiatives ranging from evaluation of natural disturbances to forest product consumption, and promotion of forest product markets. Working Group co-chairs Rita Hite (American Forest Foundation) and Jad Daley (The Trust for Public Land) co-authored an April 7 blog-post summarizing the coalition’s position and linking to background on the six recommendations.
