Minnesota Forest Industries, Inc. (MFI) is an association representing Minnesota’s primary forest products companies. MFI and its member companies encourage conservation, proper forest management, and industry development that foster sound environmental stewardship, multiple use of timber lands, and sustainable, long-term timber supply.

MFI seeks to fill the full time position of Director of Forest Policy (DVP). This position primarily analyzes forest plans and related documents and advocates with land managers to provide the type and quantity of raw fiber needed for member companies to thrive in a globally competitive environment. The successful candidate will have strong oral and written communications skills in order to convey the results of analysis and convince decision-makers to alter course. These skills will also be critical when working with the Public Relations Committee and maintaining MFI’s social media presence.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have skills and experience in active advocacy as well as in-depth natural resources training and experience. Prior experience administering committee meetings and carrying out their direction desired. Preference will be given to experience in Minnesota and/or the Lake States.


• MS required. MS in Forest Policy or Forest Economics preferred.
• Excellent communication skills, strong analytical ability.
• ArcGIS and forest modeling skills preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.


Location: Office available in Duluth, but remote work based in northern Minnesota is acceptable.

Supervisor: MFI Executive Vice President (EVP)

Travel: Occasional overnight travel required, including 3 or more out-of-state events annually.
