Roanoke, VA – On March 8, the Forest Resources Association’s Southcentral Region honored Dr. Mathew Smidt, Dr. Tom Gallagher, and Jonathan Kenney with its First Place Technical Writing Award for 2017. This annual Award recognizes the best serial publications from FRA’s quarterly magazine, the Forest Operations Review.

Smidt and Gallagher are Auburn University Forest Operations Professors, and Jonathan Kenney is a forester with Forest Resource Consultants. They co-authored Technical Release 15-R-23, Fuel Consumption on Logging Operations. It presented the findings of a study to estimate and measure average in-woods fuel consumption for conventional logging operations working primarily in the southern U.S. coastal plain. The study was jointly funded by the National Council for Air and Stream Improvement (NCASI) and the Wood Supply Research Institute (WSRI).
