Doug Schwemlein Recognized for Technical Writing

Roanoke, VA – On September 20, the Forest Resources Association’s Appalachian Region honored Doug Schwemlein with its First Place Technical Writing Award for 2017. This annual Award recognizes the best Technical Releases published and posted on FRA’s website.

Doug Schwemlein is a forester with Glatfelter in Chillicothe, Ohio. He wrote Technical Release 17-R-1, Avenza Maps Mobile App for Forest Operations Field Work. It explains and illustrates how the Avenza Maps mobile app can help a forester cruise timber, collect GPS data such as roads and sale boundaries, and share geospatial maps with logging contractors. (FRA members will find 17-R-1 in the members-only/login area of www.forestresources.org.)

The Forest Resources Association Inc. is a nonprofit trade association concerned with the safe, efficient, and sustainable harvest of forest products and their transport from woods to mill. FRA represents wood consumers, independent logging contractors, and wood dealers, as well as businesses providing products and services to the forest resource-based industries.
