FutureWood’s roots go back to 1973 when William D. Johnson of Hayward, Wisconsin established Johnson Timber. William B. (Butch) Johnson assumed the business from his father in 1986, and FutureWood was founded in 1988 to provide forestry advice and services to woodland owners.
The 2018 Farm Bill offers a reasonable solution to improve young forest habitat on federal lands with provisions for a categorical exclusion for the purpose of creating young forests.
The Great Northern Paper Mill in Millinocket, Maine was once the largest and most productive pulp and paper mill in the world. Carved out of the forest, Millinocket was a prosperous community, with life centered around the mill.
Speakers and committees at FRA’s 2018 Annual Meeting and 2017-18 Regional Meetings have addressed the many challenges associated with log and wood fiber trucking.
